I’ve always felt very lucky to call Colorado home but when I read the posts on Facebook from all over these United States I am even more convinced that we live in paradise. I was overnight last week in Dallas and when we were getting on the van…..at 5:15 am…..it was just soggy. The sun wasn’t out so I can’t say it was hot but it was very warm and humid. Friends in Omaha and Washington D.C. tell me it’s almost too hot to go outside for any length of time. Now, I don’t really want this information going out to the masses so keep this Colorado secret to yourselves!

Fifteen minutes of fame
Well, it just amazes me. One can live a “normal” life day in and day out, year in and year out. Sometimes we make a difference; sometimes we don’t. Then, out of the blue, this guy Steven Slater, gets angry, yells at passengers, grabs a beer and then blows a slide. Now he is basking in the glory of his fifteen minutes of fame. Somehow it doesn’t seen either “fair” or “right.” Maybe that’s because I work in the same industry and I can’t imagine being in that plane with him. Wonder how he was to work with that day or any other day, for that matter. There are usually three flight attendants on the planes I work on. Every so often one of them isn’t someone we’d like to have over for dinner but hey, you just deal with it. Very, very often a passenger will get on our last nerve. Happens all the time and very rarely do any of us actually say what we’re thinking! I try to remember…..each day…..that many of these people are completely out of their element. I know how that feels. I’ve been of my element at times. My favorite time was years ago, in my previous life, in the mountains, working in our ski shop. We used to laugh at the “guests” asking how long before it would snow, when it would stop, how many inches we would get….and one of my favorites, “When do the deer turn into Elk?” or better yet, “Where do you store the “fake” snow in the summer time?” While in Cancun one time, waiting for our boat captain to take us out snorkeling, he arrived at the boat to tell us that it was too windy to go that day. Know what I said? “Will it be too windy tomorrow?” Oh brother……..

Holy cow. I’ve heard of someone getting on your last nerve but this Jet Blue flight attendant, Steven Slater must have really just had enough! It’s the talk of all of us in the airline business. I just flew in for an overnight in Dallas and it’s just the buzz. Funny, really. We can all understand how this can happen. Would we ever really do it? I highly doubt it. Have we ever thought about it? You bet! The Mitch Albom Radio Show just called me to have me on as a guest….either today or in the very near future. My books have stories…for sure….but I try to focus on the positive side of flying and the flying public. But, the truth be told, I could have written the other side of flying. Sometimes I’m amazed at the dress “code,” the questions asked and the pure craziness of the airline industry. Stay tuned. I’m sure there’s more talk coming…….

I think the passenger needs to be fined for verbal abuse and for violating a Federal Aviation Regulation.
Too many travelers are becoming increasingly rude and aggressive and we need to stop this before it escalates out of control. I know your stories are so positive and encouraging, but it seems like almost every flight now, someone is rude and nasty. I do not know how this happened but it needs to stop.
Obviously the JetBlue flight attendant went too far but I would not be surprised at all to see incidents like this happening more often. So hard to take abuse on a daily basis without it having some adverse effect. -

Mary, I’m excited you’re going to talk on a radio show. If it’s opinions you want from your friends (although I know you’ll do a super job without us) then I’ve got a strong one. Under no circumstances should Steven Slater have lost his temper and used obscene language toward a customer, not matter how incomprehensible the actions of the customer were. Two people cursing at each other is nothing more than a rude match in which each one looks idiotic, unintelligent, and lacking any character. Two wrongs will NEVER make a right!!!! Since he is an ambassador for his airlines, I feel he should be fired immediately and sign up for anger management. I pray the customer has a support system that will also sign him up for anger management. Good luck with your interview. I know you’ll have great insight and perspective. Hope to see you soon! Love ya, Lynn

Blessings, conversations, animals, inspiration
I was up early this morning….earlier than usual. My husband spoke at an Optimist Club breakfast this morning. I love to go with him and hear him speak, although I’ve heard him lots and lots of times. Funny, I’m always inspired by his talks. He’s so positive and inspiring. I find it strange that I’m even saying that. Now, Ernie isn’t my first husband; not my second either, I’m rather ashamed to admit. But, I got it right this time. I always longed for/dreamed of being with someone that “got it” like I “got it.” You know, being on the same page in life? I don’t take for granted, at all, the fact that we think quite a lot alike on a great many subjects and it’s refreshing. Now, don’t get me wrong. Perfection isn’t even possible so I don’t wish for that. I’m not perfect either! But I can tell you that many mornings, especially now that it’s summer and we can sit outside on our deck in the mornings having our coffee together, we embark on some terrific conversations. Like yesterday. Ernie is writing a book (his 8th in his Maxwell Winston Series) about how animals can teach us so much about life and love and trust and on and on and on. It’s called “And The Animals Shall Teach Us” and he’s having such fun collecting and writing stories about a variety of animals and their magnificent talents that we humans don’t even have. We had a great conversation yesterday about when and why humans began eating animals. And why certain animals and not others. I mean cows but not horses; pigs but not dogs. We went off on a thought provoking conversation with all kinds of twists and turns. It was great fun. No, we never did totally figure out the why’s but we had some great ideas.
I guess on this beautiful summer evening I’m feeling blessed about so much in my life. Have you counted your blessings today?

Finding our reason…
I was up early this morning, as I am most mornings. I walked out onto our deck. It was just so quiet and peaceful. It’s like that all the time but, well, summer is just my favorite time of year. The birds are always singing their songs, the sun is warm but not yet hot, the trees and flowers are in full bloom and the smell just overtakes me. I think it’s the only time in my day that I actually take long, deep breaths and feel calm. I remind myself that I should feel that way more often; that I should find that calm place more often than just in the early morning stillness. I’m working on that one.
I heard a quote once that said something like, “If all the birds sang just one note there would be no music.” I love that. I love music so that makes sense to me. I think it goes beyond music, though. What if we all thought or acted or dressed or danced…..exactly the same. How boring. What if the rainbow was just red and yellow? It would run together and end up being so dull. We need all the diversity in our world. But more importantly, we need to embrace the diversity. We’re all here for a reason. Our purpose, I believe, is for us to find our reason. I think I’m getting close. You?

I’m Baaaack!
Holy cow…what a couple of months it’s been. I was determined to Blog, if not daily, then very often. Then life got in the way. Can you imagine?
I have lots to share. May was a super busy and fun month as I did many speaking gigs. I was in Pierre, South Dakota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dallas, Texas, Grand Junction, Colorado as well as several talks in and around Denver. I had a ball, met wonderful people and have been shown, once again, that this is my passion. My fees keep going up and I’m thrilled about that! Every place I speak I am warmly welcomed and accepted. The book signing is always fun as I have time then to chat with the audience members. Everyone has a story. As I’ve said before, everyone has a book in them, but not all want to write or share their lives. I love the one on one talks and sharing. Even though I’m told by people near and dear to me that I talk “all the time,” I do listen, as well. And I am convinced, if talking is what I do best, I should be doing more, right?

I’ll be back…..stayed tuned. -

And The World Is a Little Brighter…..
Wow! It’s been a week, for sure! We’ve been waiting for the arrival of my husband’s daugher and her husband’s first child…”our” first grandchild. We’ve known it was going to be a girl so I’ve been stockpiling huge amounts of anything pink. We are sharing little Lily Alexandria (6lb. 9 oz, 21 inches) with Kate’s mom, Carla…and Al, and Dmitri’s mom, Pat.
We shall wait our turn and anticipate a wonderful time with Lily in the near future. Pansacola, FL is a great place to spend time…anytime! Thank God for Skype, in the meantime. We’ve seen little Lily resting peacefully on Kate’s chest, witnessed the tired new mom and dad….and a bewildered Charlotte, the dog! Lots to adjust to all around. I remember those days. They pass in a blur, I think. Soon, all will become routine and each day will bring another miracle…just watching a child grow. We are so honored to be a part of Lily’s life. Ernie is now GrandDad and me? I’m GrandMary!

So nice to meet you and listen to your motivating message Saturday morning in Pierre, SD. The standing ovation showed I wasn’t the only one who responded to “Soaring Above the Turbulance” in such a positive way. I’ve enjoyed your books and now that I’ve gotten to know you look forward to more books and hopefully more good times together. Congratulations again on little Lily. You’ll have so much fun together!

Springtime in the Rockies…and elsewhere
One day it’s near 70 degrees, the next day it’s snowing, and by mid-afternoon the snow is gone again. Loving it! I think every state has the same tag line, “If you don’t like the weather here, just wait 10 minutes.” Colorado is famous for that! Our snow is gone and the forecast is looking up. I can see the green on some of the lawns and a few trees are beginning to bud. It’s such a time of renewal, isn’t it? I have been cleaning out closets, arranging my office area….just generally getting all organized. When my “stuff” is organized, I can function so much better. I don’t like messes. My outside really dictates my insides. So…I’m good and gettin’ better!
How ’bout you? What motivates you to begin a new project, start a new direction?

Easter Sunday
I woke up this morning in beautiful Washington, D.C. We’re only on the ground for about 9 hours so no time to tour the city! This morning, the drive to the airport around 7:30 was delightful as the city was alive with the sights and smells of the cherry blossoms. Pink and white trees were everywhere. The grass was green, the trees were all budding and spring was in the air. A lovely Easter morning, for sure. On the nearly 4 hour flight back to Denver, I talked with a lawyer/lobbyer from DC and CO. Most interesting gentleman. Had a great time make baby Grant laugh as he and his parents were flying to Colorado for a 4 generation Easter dinner….the first grand child on both parents side. Can’t wait for ‘our’ little baby Lily to show her tiny face. Any day now……

Hoppy Easter, Everyone!
I had a great two hour lunch today….with….my son, Ross! What a joy! A stranger would have had a very hard time trying to keep up with the constant chatter. He is, as many of you know, a flight attendant with Frontier, just as his mother is. That’s a whole other BLOG. We shared stories of flights, passengers, flight attendants; we caught up on a myriad of subjects; we laughed and we had a great burger and fries at Rodney’s in Tamarac Square. Yummmmm. It reminds me why I am so blessed to be the mother to my dear, precious sons. Nothing makes me happier than when I am in the presence of one or both of them. Ross’s brother, Cole, lives in Alaska so it’s a rare day when I can have a lunch with him! But, talk, we do! As I prepare my bags to leave for a flight in the morning I’m feeling blessed! I’m one lucky mom!

Hoppy Easter, Mar’!
Seems we spent many early morning Easters together…my sister reminded me about the sunrise service, the breakfasts, and then the riding around the town, or to the lake between that and REAL church and Sunday School…won’t be long until the RF’s will be gathering…should be a fun weekend!

we were on board your flight from Denver to Austin the Monday after T-Day, 2011. your good humor and positive attitude made the short flight even shorter and delightful. now, home, sitting outside Austin, Texas and contemplating moving to Colorado when we retire next spring. we’re frightened, homesick already, but can’t stand the Texas heat any longer. we feel like you describe your changing life seemed.
but, with you as inspiration, we will continue. CHANGE is good! somebody once said.l..
